Reverse Radar Detection for the Construction Industry
Client: Construction Industry
Location: Melbourne
Project: Reversing Radar Detection
Reverse cameras are ideal for providing clear driver vision behind a vehicle. However, when operating machinery or completing repetitive tasks, the driver may be focused on the job at hand rather than looking for obstacles or people moving behind the machine. This is where Audible and Visual Alert systems can save lives and prevent equipment damage.
We recently installed Radar Detectors on an articulated loader and a 7-tonne forklift to provide greater workplace safety in a busy construction environment. Audible alerts were required as the work area experienced poor visibility due to floating debris. The system we recommended provides Visual and Audible Alerts to warn of changes at the rear of machinery. These alerts escalate as the equipment moves closer to an obstacle.
We also calibrated the distance range of the radar to suit the width of the equipment and adjusted the length of the detection zone to suit the work environment. As the machinery operates in a busy construction zone we selected a model from the Sentry Radar Detector range. These Radars feature both a rugged design and the flexibility to customise the range of each detection zone.
TRVS has fitted rear sensors to waste vehicles for many years and using sensors on construction equipment is another application where drivers are focused on many tasks at one time. In these instances, combining Audible and Visual Alerts provides extra assistance to the operator by monitoring activities behind the vehicle for greater workplace safety.
